Elbow Patches: Not your Grandpa’s Shooting Jacket

June 22, 2013

Elbow Patches

Most of our leisure activities don’t include rubbing elbows on grassy knolls or crawling around in general forestry with a shotgun in tow. Game shooting was a regular activity back in the days when house wives were prevalent. These innovative wives had sturdy elbow patches sewn on their husband’s jackets, to protect the jacket from wear and tear. However, like most sartorial details, the elbow patch has become unnecessary, atleast in everyday “city” wear.

Nonetheless, these days, you can find them on everything: cashmere sweaters, sailor inspired long sleeved T’s, and of course, tweed blazers. A trend, we think, is here to stay for 2013.
