Intermediate Guide to Suits: Part VI

October 8, 2009

Each week, I will present a post on the ins and outs of custom suits AND suits in general at an intermediate level. It is recommended that the beginner’s guide be read first.
Dressing up your Suit with Current Trends

This season’s trends for men reflect military and classic menswear as shown in the pictures above. How can one aspire to following the seasonal trends in an inexpensive way? The secret lies in your ability to take risks, a hard thing to give in to but something that will change the way you look at your wardrobe.
For military – think about vintage emblems or crests that can be worn as a chain, cufflink, or pin. Buttons and flaps are another way to express the military trend – take an existing jacket or vest and switch the buttons to gold, brass or rustic.
Other ways to “jazz up” your suit is through an interesting pocket square. The way it is displayed and the colour can make it an interesting focal point. Ensure that if you want to wear a loud pocket square that your suit and tie remain neutral.
I will be discussing pocket squares next week – stay tuned.
